I have bought two properties in France and while I cannot really claim to have entirely known what was going on when I bought them, the second one was bought with more knowledge than the first, and now I believe, having spent a year as an agent in France I have a fairly good grasp on it. As usual in these situations, I am in a position to help you avoid some of the pitfalls that befell me!! I have selected these pages, as they cover the most questions most often asked . The currency exchange pages can probably save you most money, the mortgage page will let you discover how much you are likely to realistically borrow in France. This will save your sale being torpedoed by the bloody French bank manager, who said "yes yes yes!!!" when you walked into the Branch, and then NO!! two weeks before you were due to get the keys ( you think I am am joking, I have seen this happen in 50% of the sales I tried to make in my first year!!).
The French sale process will try and gently introduce you to some of the cultural and procedural differences between buying a house in the UK and France.
